After getting tired of a leaky rear-main seal on my S-10 I decided that instead of fixing the leak and keeping the under powered 2.8 liter V-6 I was going to swap in a 350ci V-8. For years my friends had been bugging me to put a real engine in my S-10 and now that I was finally done with school and had some disposable income I figured what the hell. In addition I was getting tired of having a truck that sounded like it had a V-8 but defiantly didn't feel like it (I had headers and dual exhaust behind the 2.8). I the fall of 1998 I began my search for a 350 and transmission. I still wasn't ready to go nuts on this conversion so I still tried to keep costs down. One of my friends had an relative who owed a junk yard so I went to him for parts. After going through 2 350's I was able to come up with a complete engine in good condition plus a Turbo 350 transmission. After rebuilding the engine and putting a shift kit in the transmission I waited until the spring of 1999 to begin the conversion. The conversion was a success and I had no major problems during the conversion. Driveability is as good as my stock 2.8. I drove the truck for over 2 years without any problems. I had to park the truck in the fall of 2001 because the transmission started slipping in 3rd gear. Once I have the time and the money I will bring the truck back to life with a new 700R4 and some new wheels & tires (and maybe a paint job). Eventuall I'd like to build the engine up with some serious horsepower (It's fairly mild right now).
